Yes, yes, I know–I am a geeky paraphernalia-making geek. Knowing that, here’s a fun, quick, cheap and easy DIY for a Golden Snitch ornament (one of what I hope will be a Harry Potter craft series) to hang on your Christmas tree, at your desk, or anywhere really. It’s a great craft for Harry Potter-loving kids and adults this holiday.
Materials:
- ping pong ball (on Amazon here for $0.30 a ball)
- piece of thin cardboard (e.g. cereal box)
- glue gun
- scissors
- gold spray paint(on Amazon here for $7)
- string
COST: ~$8, mostly for the spray paint.
Instructions: Golden Snitch Ornament DIY {Harry Potter Craft}
It was sorta hard to find a good still photo of the snitch from the movie to base this golden snitch craft off of, but here’s a gif that I went from. So! To begin…
Starting materials (plus gold spray paint):
For the cardboard I just used a piece of a cereal box (mmm sugary shredded wheat…)
Draw little wings onto the cardboard.
Cut out the wings.
Here you can get an idea of the size the wings should be.
Using hot glue, create a cool design on the ping pong ball (my favorite part!)
I drew out the design from the actual golden snitch, but didn’t really stick to the pattern in the end.
Hot glue circles.
Glue on the wings!
Spray the entire thing (outside), doing a few light sprays with dry time in between.
Be careful—if you spray it on too thick in one go the cardboard wings might get soggy and warp.
Once it is all gold and dry…
Voila!
Next: Glue on a string and hang it on the tree….
Enjoy! Keep your eyes open for more Harry Potter crafts from my blog 🙂
